A bit of a rant here and opinions

I really get annoyed with the “fake geek girl” that many female fans are insulted with ( as a person who grew up with parents who are very involved in geek culture and grew up watching starwars from basically the day I was born its a little insulting ) cause there are fake geek men as well, shocker! Geek culture is becoming more of a trend then a under ground culture like it once was, the movies and shows that feature geek characters (ex: the Big Bang theory) have become more of a mainstream thing so of corse it’s going to attract all sorts of people regardless of gender or even reading any sort of marvel, dc, etc comics before hand, so the more people see it the more mainstream it becomes geek culture is less of the under ground spider man readers and Trekkies who if they wore a shirt with any thing geek related would be bullied and harassed for just wearing a shirt and held secret meeting but now it’s cool to wear a shirt with Thor on it as it was before
And along the lines of conventions and cosplay if a female wears a slave leia or any sort of costume that exposes a lot of skin they are almost instantly considered a slut right away, they are sluts looking more attention and ways to make money are stupid reasons yes there are cosplayers who do get paid for cosplaying such as Jessica nigiri who is well known for sexy cosplays that show more skin who sells prints of cosplay photos for money and theres nothing wrong with that. But what most people don’t realize men also dress in cosplays that have exposed skin like Spartans and free! Cosplayers their basically in speedos and yet a slave leia is the worst thing
Also with more female comic book characters becoming leads in their own series like batwomen and miss marvel. And more female super heroes are expressing their sexuality from not essentially wearing a g-string. Hey we have a lesbian batwomen now and a miss marvel who’s a Muslim teenage girl and I think it’s great marvel and dc are expanding to attract female readers cause women are a minority in geek culture depending on what poll you see ranging from 8% to a 40% in female comic readers. And hey there’s females who work I’m comic book stores and make the comics these people read ( I think the president of DC is a women) and a good majority of con attenders ate female and there is female intended cons and websites. Of corse with this minority marvel and DC will market to them it’s not a bad idea. Hey I like the new 52 harley quinn regardless of what shes wearing now.
Also with the history of bad female protagonist being terrible like catwoman and Electra so it instantly is a terrible movie and won’t do well cause of a female protagonist who’s super sexy strong independent women who don’t need no man. But we’ve had terrible male protagonist movies like dare devil, green lantern, and the wolverine origins that where poorly made but were getting better female leads like katniss and Merida who’s movies did do well, Even frozen did well! That made like so much money in no time at all

So anyway geek culture is becoming popular its a trend right now people will get into because of different reasons and fanboys shouldn’t excluded females because of the gender you identify as. Regardless of who you cosplay, what iron man movie you say, or what comic you got. This female demographic should not be demonized but embraced and recognized
